CataloniaBio & HealthTech Night: a dinner to promote cooperation and networking between Catalan biomedicine and health companies

The meeting CataloniaBio & HealthTech's Nit was launched in 2015, and this year marked its 10th edition. And since its inception - when the cluster was still divided between two organisations with many common interests: Catalonia Bio y HealthTech Cluster-It has functioned as a meeting point designed to connecting entrepreneurs, managers and professionals from companies and organisations in the biomedicine and health sectors, as well as the health technologies.

Gabinete Técnico Farmacéutico M. Camps is, for almost a decade now, a partner company of this organisation - first of the HealthTech Cluster, and, following the merger in 2017, of CataloniaBio & HealthTech-. And as partners of the cluster, we did not want to miss this meeting of the sector. The director of Gabinete Técnico Farmacéutico, Mercè Camps, together with regulatory expert Joaquim Gomez, attended on behalf of GTF. And, as they told us, they were able to see in person the smooth running of the event and the facilities it offers. CataloniaBio & HealthTech's Nit to connect with a large number of professionals and companies from all areas within the healthcare technology sector.

Throughout the evening, in addition to a number of lectures and the dinner-networking the award was also presented Bioèxit 2024 Award, The Bioèxit 2024 Award, which rewards those companies that have taken the most important steps in biomedicine and with the greatest transcendence for the city of Barcelona. In its tenth edition, the Bioèxit 2024 Award went to the following companies AstraZeneca y WIVI Vision.

The anecdote of the evening:

Mercè Camps coincided in Nit de CataloniaBio & HealthTech with a senior official of the Conselleria de Salut interviewed in our blog.

Manel Balcells, Conseller de Sanitat

Among the meetings of the evening, we would like to highlight that our director, Mercè Camps, agreed on CataloniaBio & HealthTech's Nit with the most honourable Conseller de Sanitat, Manel Balcells, who was invited by the cluster to participate in the meeting. And whom, by chance, we had the opportunity to interview in April 2020 for our blog.

Just before taking up the post of Conseller, we spoke to Manel Balcells because the research centre he directed had just certified with the AEMPS, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the ‘'Covid-19'' model.‘Leitat 1 Ventilator‘. We also share some of his impressions of his time as President of the Consell Assessor del Departament de Salut de la Generalitat, which coincided with a very turbulent time in health management.

The design of the Leitat 1 Ventilator, which was approved by the AEMPS in the framework of a field study in collaboration with several public hospitals in Catalonia, made it possible to produce, with the help of the 3D printing, a simple device that helped to improve the use and efficiency of ventilators in hospitals.
