The ‘Beauty Equipment and Products’ Masterclass, organised by Beauty Cluster Barcelona, Beauty Business School and Gabinete Técnico Farmceútico M. Camps, aims to provide a brief introduction to the new legal framework governing the beauty industry, in light of the imminent entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2017/745 on medical devices.
The new Regulation will come into force in May 2020. Over the coming months, beauty salons will need to adapt to the European regulations, which set out some important definitions for the sector and introduce new control mechanisms for both their equipment and their products.
On 6 February, Beauty Cluster Barcelona organised a training session to help beauty businesses begin planning – with the guidance of expert consultants in regulatory affairs – the steps they need to take to adapt to the sector’s new legal framework.
The ‘Beauty Equipment and Products’ masterclass, held at the Beauty Business School’s headquarters and led by Mercè Camps – director of GTF M. Camps – and Joaquín Gómez Abril – Technical Manager at the Notified Body KIWA – has helped companies in the sector to identify their priorities for next May.
Programme for the ‘Beauty Equipment and Products’ Masterclass’
The training session was scheduled to last 3 hours and 30 minutes, from 10.00 to 13.30. It took place in a classroom at the Beauty Business School, which has a capacity of 50 people and is located in the same building as the Beauty Cluster Barcelona headquarters.
The ‘Beauty Equipment and Products’ Masterclass consists of three modules:
- Authorisation requirements for an operating licence
- Requirements for obtaining the CE marking on products
- Specific requirements for the products listed in the annex

Conclusions from the training session
At Gabinete Técnico Farmacéutico M. Camps, we greatly appreciate Beauty Cluster Barcelona’s involvement in training in regulatory affairs by companies in the sector. Promoting this kind of awareness-raising activity helps the beauty community to keep up to date with legislation in the sector. And it is undoubtedly a first step towards effective compliance with the regulations.
