Last Friday, the Rapex Report 3-3-2017 withdrew 58 products from the EU market, a very high number. Of these, four of the articles were banned by the Spanish authorities: three toys from China and a pacifier-holding strap from Belgium.
Rapex Report 3-3-2017: 2 product recalls in the cosmetics sector
In the cosmetics sector, two products have been recalled this week. On the one hand, a moisturising cream from Russia, which was withdrawn by the Estonian authorities. The product contained methylisothiazolinone (MI) and methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI), two ingredients that are allowed in cosmetics, but not in leave-on cosmetics. In this case, they did not comply with the Regulation, as through prolonged skin contact, these ingredients can cause dermatitis in people with sensitive skin.
On the other hand, France withdrew a lip balm from China. In this case, there was no risk in the ingredients of the product. The reason for the ban was because they looked like mini cupcakes (small coloured muffins). The article did not comply with Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 as it was presented in the form of mini-cupcakes. We recall that, according to European regulations, the presentation of products must be in accordance with their intended use, and that it is therefore prohibited to manufacture cosmetics that could be mistaken for foodstuffs.
European authorities withdraw 4 Poppers
This week, within the category of chemical products, 4 Poppers have been withdrawn. The French authorities, the country of manufacture of these products, have been in charge of notifying this ban.
Poppers are chemical substances, based on the isobutyl nitrite. The labelling of the product itself warns about its risks: inhalation and ingestion can cause cancer. However, in certain sectors, inhalation is common, for use as a recreational drug and/or sexual enhancement.
