In the RAPEX alert of recalled products in the European Union, there were 41 warnings in the EU area last week. The majority of bans were accumulated in France and Germany, and in Spain only two products were recalled, both children's shoes.
With regard to the cosmetics sector, RAPEX reports only one product recall: Estonia banned a body lotion, manufactured in the US by the company Sparitual, which does not comply with the Regulation because it contains an excessive amount of methylisothiazolinone (MI), a sensitising ingredient that can cause skin sensitisation and allergic reactions.
Also withdrawn - but not as cosmetics, but under chemicals - were 3 tattoo inks in Denmark. The first, manufactured in the US by Sarbrite, was withdrawn because it contained several polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and in particular benzo(a)pyrene, which RAPEX highlights as a carcinogen. The other two inks, manufactured by Intenze also in the US, have been withdrawn for containing aromatic amines, which cause cancer, cell mutation and affect the reproductive system.
Finally, we would like to inform you of the withdrawal of a set of children's painting in France, because the green pigment contains a very high number of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, which can cause infections in contact with the mouth, hands or eyes. Although it is not a hand paint in this case, the product has been withdrawn because of the effect it could have in contact with the skin.
