In this week's RAPEX, 43 products have been banned across the EU, 12 of them in Spain. GTF reports that the number of products in Spain - more than 25% of the total list - has been unusually high, and while we are pleased that there have been no bans on Spanish cosmetics, we note that the number of toys and clothing banned - for using Chromium VI, which can cause allergic reactions - has been steadily increasing since we started monitoring.
With regard to the cosmetics sector, which is the one we monitor most closely, four products have been banned, all of them wet wipes for newborns, manufactured by the Papilion brand and distributed in the Czech Republic. In this case, the ban comes because they contained Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC), which cannot be used in products for children under 3 years of age because it can have adverse effects on the functioning of the thyroid gland. As the product does not comply with the cosmetic regulation, a withdrawal from the market is imposed.
