The laboratory of Aquimisa Pharma, our collaborators in Salamanca, has obtained last September the certification of Halal Consulting Authorised Laboratory. It is a certifying body valid in the EU, USA, Latin America and several Arab and Islamic countries in Africa and the Middle East. Through authorisation, Aquimisa Pharma's technicians are ready to offer a service that is somewhat unknown in our sector: the Halal certification of cosmetic products.

What are the benefits of halal certification of cosmetic products?

Halal means that its use is permitted by Islamic law as being “beneficial and healthy for human beings”. In practice, this expression has enormous commercial potential associated with it. It is permissible for all Muslims to consume any product that falls into the ‘halal’ category. And we are talking about a global market sector that, in 2010, had 1.6 billion potential buyers. And it is growing fast.

With these numbers, it is not surprising that it is appetising for any international company to secure access to the Muslim community. A halal-certified cosmetic product will be more welcome in countries where potential consumers are predominantly Islamic.

In addition, many cosmetic products already meet the conditions for such certification. In other words, they do not contain alcohol or pork. These are, in essence, the ingredients that this seal does not allow. However, the companies that market them do not have the halal seal. Either due to ignorance or because they have not previously thought about targeting Islamic markets.

If you would like to know more about the advantages of halal certification, please consult the following website our trend article on halal cosmetics. There you will find everything you need to know; in fact, to this day it is still one of the most consulted articles on our blog, even though it was published in 2016.

What do I have to do to get halal certification for my cosmetic products?

From today, companies in the sector wishing to obtain Halal certification for their cosmetic products have it easy. All they have to do is contact Aquimisa Pharma and follow the instructions of your technical team.

There their products will be subjected to various laboratory tests. These tests will allow the “identification of the presence of porcine/and or 0% alcohol”. And, if the results confirm this, they will make it easier to obtain halal certification for your cosmetic product.

What laboratory tests will the cosmetic products I want to certify as halal be subjected to?

The certification of your cosmetic product as ‘halal cosmetics’ in Aquimisa Pharma's laboratories consists of two procedures:

  • Investigation for the presence of pigmeat, with a limit of detection of 0.0005%. It affects all products containing less than 0.0005% of pork and pork derivatives. If the cosmetic does not contain this ingredient it meets the conditions to be certified as halal cosmetics.
  • Investigation of residual alcohol, with a detection limit of 0.05% v/v. All products containing less than 0.05% of alcohol meet the conditions to be certified as halal cosmetics.

For more information on the halal certification service, please ask for more information at aquimisa@aquimisa.com, A specialised technician will get back to you with an analytical plan tailored to your needs.
