The healthcare technology sector – known as ‘MedTech’ – has held the conference The Medtech Forum 2022 from 3 to 5 May in Barcelona. This event, organised annually by the European employers’ organisation MedTech Europe in various cities across the EU, aimed at all professionals working in the health technology and digital health sectors.
Mercè Camps, the director of Technical Pharmaceutical Office, visited the conference accompanied by members of the Spanish employers’ organisation Fenin (Spanish Federation of Healthcare Technology Companies). This has enabled it to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of MedTech y eHealth.
It is worth noting that, from a legal perspective, consumer products and equipment produced using healthcare technologies are classified by law as Medical Devices and In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices.

The MedTech Forum 2022: a brief report on the event in Barcelona
The health technology industry The first edition of the international conference, held in Barcelona, took place from 3 to 5 May The MedTech Forum 2022, organised by the European employers’ organisation MedTech Europe.
Over the course of these three days, a large number of professionals, companies, stakeholders and leading figures from the healthcare technology sector have gathered in Barcelona. And it is certainly fair to say that the conference has been very well received within the sector, as it has enabled many stakeholders to raise their profile, thanks to the more than 200 B2B meetings which have been confirmed as a result of this event.
However, this international conference has also encountered a a forum for discussing new trends, exchanging ideas and debating with industry professionalsin the field of health technologies. In fact, more than 40 sessions, in which almost 150 renowned professionals who They have presented their research, shared their strategic vision for the sector and discussed the opportunities and risks associated with health technologies.
Of all the guests who took part in the event, we would like to highlight the presence of The MedTech Forum 2022 two heavyweights who are not part of the healthcare technology industry, but who have attended on behalf of the health authorities.
In fact, at the Spanish level, the event was attended by Carmen Ruiz-Villar, the Head of the Medical Devices Department at AEMPS. At European level, meanwhile, it has taken part Flora Giorgio, Deputy Head of Unit at the Directorate-General for Food Health and Safety (DG SANTE) of the European Commission.
