Rapex Report, October 2019 – Although the number of alerts has been quite high – 41 products recalled – none of them fell within the cosmetics category. Nor have there been any recalls of tattoo inks, personal care products or other items relevant to our department’s remit. The Spanish authorities have still not issued any notifications.

Rapex Report 11 October 2019

On Friday 11 October, 33 products were withdrawn from the market via the Rapex system. None of the alerts originated from the Spanish authorities, who have not reported any product recalls to the consumer alert system for months.

In the cosmetics sector, two products have been withdrawn: one shower gel which was contaminated with the bacteria Burholderia cepacia, which is resistant to antibiotics and which, if ingested, inhaled or brought into contact with immunocompromised individuals or those with cystic fibrosis, could lead to a systemic infection and even death.
And the other one is a antifungal spray which contained a large amount of boric acid and, consequently, did not comply with the Cosmetics Regulation.
