In the Rapex Report dated 18 November 2016, published last Friday, the European Commission withdrew 35 items from the single market. Of these, three were reported by Spain: a plastic toy gun, a children’s cookery set and a water pistol. In all three cases, the products were manufactured in China and categorised as toys.
The Rapex Report of 18 November 2016 withdraws two cosmetic products
With regard to the cosmetics sector, Rapex alerts have identified two products:
- A peeling cream from Poland, manufactured by Eveline Cosmetics. This product has been withdrawn from the market in Latvia because it contains methylisothiazolinone (MI) and methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) amongst its ingredients. Both ingredients pose a chemical risk, as contact with the skin can cause allergies and dermatitis; consequently, their use does not comply with the Regulation.
- A set of teeth-whitening strips, manufactured in the USA by Crest. In this case, the product has been withdrawn because it contains too high a concentration of hydrogen peroxide (3,06%) and therefore does not comply with the Regulation. However, the Regulation sets the limit for the use of this ingredient at 6%, so we do not fully understand the reason for the recall.
