The Rapex alerts for consumer safety in the EU on Friday 15 April resulted in 33 product recalls and a bad weekly record for the cosmetics sector. In Spain, on the other hand, only three products were banned, a lower number than usual: children's shoes, an Ikea lamp and an Opel Antara engine.
In relation to cosmetics, the Rapex has this week taken 6 items off the market. In the Czech Republic, a facial toner, manufactured in India by the company Khade, for having a biological infection of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, The product, a micro-organism that causes infections and skin irritation, and therefore did not comply with the Regulation. Germany, on the other hand, has withdrawn a Chinese make-up set for costumes, marketed under the name of Horror Make up Set, whose “red liquid” contained methylisothiazolinne, a preservative substance which can cause allergies and is banned by the Regulation.
In Greece, on the other hand, 4 products produced by the brand Malef in the same country have been recalled: a Barbie doll shampoo/shower gel, and 3 bath soaps from the same manufacturer. In all cases, the articles did not comply with the Regulation as the product was contaminated with Pseudomonas spp. and have a very high level of aerobic mesophilic bacteria.
