The Catalan Health Service (CatSalut) has just updated its Catalogue of Orthopaedic and Prosthetic Services. The reclassification of many orthopaedic products and prostheses – which are now classified as standard (BAS) – will lead to an increase in turnover for orthopaedic and prosthetic organisations (PAOs) and will foster closer ties between pharmacies and the orthopaedic sector.
On 16 January, CatSalut updated its Catalogue of Orthopaedic and Prosthetic Services, a list that includes orthopaedic and prosthetic devices – prostheses, wheelchairs, orthoses – specifying the price and the maximum contribution from CatSalut.
This is a significant development for the Catalan orthopaedic sector, which is set to see an increase in the number of items covered by the Catalan health system. And, of course, it is also great news for pharmacies, as the reclassification of many products – which are now classified as standard (BAS) – and the expansion of the range of items in the catalogue will enable:
- Increasing turnover in pharmacies from orthopaedic products
- A wider range of orthopaedic products in pharmacies across Catalonia
- And, ultimately, aA move by the orthopaedics sector towards pharmacies
The update to the Catalogue of Orthopaedic and Prosthetic Services: a change regulated by Royal Decree
This list has been published in accordance with the update system set out in the Royal Decree 1030/2006, of 15 September, which establishes the portfolio of common services of the National Health System and the procedure for its updatingn.
As such, its content is governed by national legislation, which in this case is implemented by the Catalan Health Service. Furthermore, this publication fulfils the public administration’s obligation to ensure transparency.
Since it came into force on 16 January, a number of orthopaedic companies have already picked up on the news. M.
