And the truth is that there is no shortage of reasons for confusion: on the one hand, because of the wide variety of brands currently operating in the market; and on the other, because – as we at GTF M. Camps are well aware – not all types of face masks are subject to the same regulations.
But setting aside all apparent differences, there is also one undeniable fact: if we are able to understand the labelling and the intended purpose of each of these products, we will help to ensure that face masks are used more correctly.

It has now been a few months since we were hit head-on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought Spain’s healthcare system to a standstill and has revolutionised consumption in chemists. For many people, both within and outside the healthcare sector, it is proving somewhat difficult to understand the labelling on face masks correctly. And as there are still many questions on this subject, we have decided to publish a new guide entitled Wear your face mask sensibly!

The Guidance on the labelling of surgical masks has been prepared by the technical staff at Gabinete Farmacéutico M. Camps. But even so, it is designed for the non-medical staff of companies and the the general public, as we believe that learning how to use face masks correctly – as well as raising awareness of the most basic aspects of how they work and the different types available – is another way of contributing to public health.

The A brief guide to the labelling of face masks It will enable you, whenever you have any doubts about the classification and/or properties of a face mask:
- Understanding and interpreting the symbols used on labelling of face masks
- Recognising the components of a face mask
- Distinguish between the different Types of PPE face masks (FFP1, FFP2 y FFP3)
- Finding out whether it is a face mask Reusable o Non-reusable
- Set the size and age range on face masks
- Follow the fitting/adjustment instructions, maintenance and terms and conditions of storage.
A tool for technicians: Specification table based on mask classification
In response to the numerous enquiries received during this pandemic regarding face masks (regulations, types, UNE standards, etc.), we at Gabinete Técnico Farmacéutico have deemed it appropriate to create a resource not aimed at the general public, but rather at a more technical audience (healthcare professionals, occupational health and safety technicians, etc.).
