In the 4 Rapex Report April 2017, up to 5 cosmetics have been withdrawn from the European market. This is a reasonably low number. And even more, considering that during this period, a total of 174 articles have been banned by the European Commission. For their part, the Spanish authorities notified 19 products in April.

Rapex Report April 2017: some facts about cosmetics

Cosmetics accounted for 2.881 TTP3T of the products withdrawn by the European authorities. And we believe that this is a rather low number. Especially when in annual terms, cosmetics typically account for 6% of the Rapid Alert System for Consumers (RAPEX) warnings.

The cosmetics recalled during the week of 7 April were a soap bubble toy. According to RAPEX, it fell into the category of toys. However, the reason for the ban was that the soap was contaminated with aerobic mesophilic bacteria.

In the week of 14 April, 2 items were recalled, a hair dye from Turkey and a body lotion of Chinese origin. For both products, the reason for the ban was that they did not comply with the safety warnings on the labelling.

In the week of 21 April, 1 hair dye from Turkey of the same brand as in the previous week was withdrawn. The reason for the ban was, as in the week of 14 April, non-compliance with labelling rules.

The last Rapex Report April 2017 was on Friday 28th. In this case, a false eyelash glue was recalled because it contained hydroquinone. And this is an ingredient prohibited by the Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of cosmetics by causing dermatitis and skin irritation.
