In the Rapex alert for EU consumers issued last Friday, 22 April – which was dominated by bans in the automotive sector – the following have been withdrawn: 38 products from the European market. Of these, nine were in Spain: some decorative candles shaped like food, four electrical appliances, a chair, a Kawasaki motorbike engine and three toys.
In relation to the cosmetics sector, Finland has withdrawn 2 sauna fragrance oils, manufactured in Poland by Rento, which did not comply with the CNP, Regulation on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, as they do not bear the appropriate labelling and contain substances amongst their ingredients that may cause skin and eye irritation. RAPEX has categorised these items as chemicals and not as cosmetics.Belgium has also recalled a hair styling product, manufactured in China by Capi’liss System, as it contains excessive levels of formaldehyde, an ingredient which, in high quantities, can cause eye irritation.
As we produce a weekly report on products recalled in the EU via Rapex, we would like to explain that this service has just changed the web format of its alerts, making it easier to access the details of the bans and improving the visual presentation of the results. Furthermore, Rapex has introduced the option to search by product category, country where the product is banned, type of risk and alert number.
